My New Sony Vaio Laptop

posted on: Saturday 8 December 2012

After six years, my first Sony Vaio laptop said its final goodbye....We had a great time together but everyone said it was time to move on... to a new 15.5'' Sony Vaio, with a more powerful Core i5 processor and 640 GB HDD. I followed their advice, and even though it still feels a bit weird to have such a fast laptop (!), I'm sure I'll love it as much as the first one...

Home Decor Envy: Restrained Glamour

A couple that moved back to New York after their children left for college worked with William Sofield for two years on renovating a 1920s three-level maisonette with views on the East River. But it turned out that renovating this "palatial" space was quite a challenge that kept the well-known architect and designer awake at nights puzzling over the apartment's configuration: "Over the decades, it had been divided into smaller units, then reconsolidated. When the couple purchased it, the layout of the spaces offered a lot of drama, but not much delight. “It had been opened up almost in a loftlike manner, which actually made it enormously difficult to use,” says Sofield. “There were extreme changes of scale. The large rooms felt desolate, and the small rooms oppressive. But for Sofield - who is known for his ability to reinterpret modernism - every problem has a solution. He found that the best decision was to erect back the walls which made the space feel much larger. As for the house's decor, antiques and items from famous designers were picked mainly from Paris, giving a sense of restricted glamour to every room. More photos here

My mum and I must be two of the very few people who like the blue and black color combination. If you take a closer look to these two rooms, you'll understand why. The photos prove that black and blue can be put together without giving a gothic look to a space. On the contrary, these two colors give an elegant and grown-up feeling that you'd be proud to show off to your guests!

Selections from the Curiosity Shoppe for Target

Selections from the Curiosity Shoppe for Target

1. Salad Servers, 2. Salad Plates (set of four), 3. Chalkboard, 4. Novelty Mugs (set of four)
5. Oven Mitt and Pot Holder

Following my previous post on the Curiosity Shoppe's line for Target, here are my (five) selections. Yes, I know there's a place for all of the line's products in my home, but my wallet strongly disagrees. That's why I'm limiting myself to five fab items which cost less than $100. Not bad, don't you think?

The Curiosity Shoppe

The Curiosity Shoppe in San Francisco's Mission District is the ultimate destination of those looking for quirky, clever, unusual and nostalgic objects! Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom, the owners of the store, left their crazy lives in New York City and moved to San Francisco to open up a place where they could sell the beautiful things they admired. They called the place "The Curiosity Shoppe" and filled it with rare art books, wonderful vintage finds, carefully hand-crafted jewelry and unique works of art! The artistic community of San Fransisco loved it and soon the Shoppe became famous! Today it is a must-go, must-see place that offers such a great customer service and selection of unique products, that the executives of Target.com wanted some for themselves! So they invited Lauren and Derek to create an exclusive, limited edition line of housewares, stationary, toys and gift items for Target's pop-up "The Shops at Target" series which opened up a few weeks ago! The 60 pieces collection is inspired by two of Lauren and Derek's greatest loves, road trips and all things whimsical, and it has definately stolen my heart! A post of my top 5 pieces will follow! Stay tuned!

Home Decor Idea: The Black Monochrome Paintings

posted on: Friday 28 September 2012

Ok, so you might not be able to afford a huge art installation like Allan McCollum's 384 Plaster Surrogates cluster of black monochrome paintings which Reed Krakoff proudly shows off on his living room's wall. But you can still create a similar, budget-friendly art installation by purchasing pieces of black, high-quality paper and cheap frames of various sizes and colours, like Ikea's Ribba frames. All you'll need to do is put the paper in the frame, take a hammer and start creating your own piece of art!

What to Wear to Work

What to Wear to Work

1. Jacket, 2. Tank Top, 3. Pyramid Earrings, 4. Cuff Bracelet, 5. Pants, 6. Shoes, 7. Tote Bag

Autumn hues and summer shapes and cuts (see the tank-top and the pants) are a smart choice for your office outfits for this period; just add the jacket if you feel cold and remove it if you feel warm.

Ivanka Trump's East Side Apartment

Ivanka Trump's Manhattan apartment is nothing like I thought it would be. Instead of huge spaces and ostentatious decor style, Ivanka has gone for a modern-with-a-retro-twist style and for vivid colours and her husband had a lot to do with it. “Being traditional and feminine, I wanted luxury and glamour,” Trump says, “while Jared gravitates toward the modern, which can be austere.” Ultimately, the woman who grew up in the famous marble palaces of her parents, Donald and Ivana Trump, agreed that sleeker is better. And with the help of their decorator, Kelly Behun, the couple created a "modern warm" where "kids can live happily" and Ivanka's husband can "put his feet on the table or lie on the sofa watching TV and not be worried. Nothing should be so precious that you can’t use it.” You can see the rest of the house by visiting Elle Decor's website!
